One of New Zealand's first carbon credit companies will be launched in Auckland on Monday.
Green Carbon will buy and sell internationally certified carbon credits, and help companies assess their own carbon footprint.
It's designed to help businesses who choose to become carbon neutral and will help give advice on trading carbon credits.
Green Carbon will focus on small to medium sized businesses, and will only sell credits to a company once they have gone through a lengthy process of becoming carbon neutral.
CEO Seeby Woodhouse says that will be achieved by providing companies with internationally certified carbon credits which prove they have embarked on the process of carbon neutrality.
He says there is a lot of proof now that consumers are choosing eco-friendly companies in favour of others.
Woodhouse says carbon credits can be looked at as a tax on dirty
technologies or an incentive for clean technologies.
