TO EMIRATES TEAM NEW ZEALAND
I sat watching Grant and Dean interviewed this evening with great
pride.
I am proud to be a New Zealander. You may not be bringing back the
America's Cup but you will be bringing back with the knowledge that
you were not alone today. You had the whole nation sailing with
you.
You have not let us down.
Roll on the next America's Cup.
Thank you for representing us.
From: Sue
To Grant, Dean and all the team
We are all so very proud of your efforts. We know you gave 110% and
although it didn't go our way this time we know you will do it next
time around.
Please do not be too hard on yourselves because the country is
still right behind you guys. We will take it next time!!!
Also to John McBeth great commentary especially in the small hours
of the morning. I would like to have heard more from Peter Lester
and Martin Tasker they are really great to watch and listen
to
and are always informative and positive. Could not have asked for
better coverage.
Till next time.
From : Louise & Malcolm
To Emirates Team NZ:
Now listen up! In every competition where there are two teams, one
wins, one comes second. That's what competition is all about. Of
course, you compete to win, but if you come second, then how you
lose is important. I mean, for Heaven's sake, it's not as if you
were a poor team and you were thrashed!!! You gave them a right old
run for their money, you gave us the telly-watching thrill of a
life-time. You should all be proud as Punch of yourselves. And if
you're not, well, I guess you can leave that to us - we'll take the
pride in our team while you have a wee holiday so that you are all
fresh to plan the next campaign very soon. At home, you're like our
extended family, so forgive the familiarity when I say: Grant, Dean
and ALL the crew - boat and ashore - it's been brilliant. You've
been brilliant. Very well done and many many congratulations on
holding the Alinghi win to one second! Nobody could have done half
as well. Feel the love.
From; Sue
To Emirates Team NZ
Congratulations on a wonderful challenge, you are and ALWAYS will
be THE BEST. I truly hope that the next cup is held in 2009 because
that isn't long to have to wait to see you all again. Bring it on
and see you there! Have a great Barbie tonight and safe travels
back to Kiwiland!
Love Wendy and Jan (Royal Oak, Auckland)
Hi
A message for Team New Zealand and TVNZ
What a stunning time it has been. I have watched the magnificent coverage since the first race of the Louis Vuitton. Thank you all.
To the Team - guys, we are already looking forward. Your wives,
partners and families will help you through a time of
disappointment but - hey! we're looking forward to welcoming you
home and preparing for the next one. I think the greatest tragedy
would be if Grant, Dean and the crew were to step away from another
challenge. Please stay with us. This is so important for NZ,
this is our Olympics.
From: Carolyn Nodder
To John McBeth
Your commentary has been fantastic all through - you've answered
and asked questions as I've mentally thought them (including times
to visit the loo!) and cheered me when I've felt a bit down with a
lost race.
Very many thanks for the extra pleasure you have given viewers -
and the same to Martin Tasker, Peter Lester and Peter Montogomery,
as well as their guest co-hosts. I sincerely hope
you will always be reporting on Team NZ.
Big Daddy Dalton, Dean Barker and the whole Emirates Team NZ crew
have been absolutely outstanding and we couldn't possibly have any
more pride and admiration for them even if they had won the
America's Cup.
From: Rogers family, Auckland and Canada.
Congratulations to all the Team, on your success of winning the
Louis Vouitton Cup, what a wonderful achievement. Sorry your
hard fought battle to win the Americas Cup was not achieved, but
you gave Alingi some hard competitive racing, you all worked so
hard, and Im sure you all thoroughly enjoyed the experience,
stressful as it must of been out there.
We felt every emotion watching the exciting races, thankyou, and
all the best of luck for the next Americas Cup.
From: Beresley and Peter Watt
Grant, Dean, and All Team New Zealand
Thank You.
You have given us back our pride in ourselves, What a fantastic
ride you have given us, I felt like I was there with you all, the
whole world has been watching. There are not enough words to
express what you have done for us. where can we send donations to
start you off for the next challenge? To the TVNZ team thank you
for taking us there
Its been unforgettable
From: Maureen
How can there be ANY criticism of our guys doing the commentary of
the Americas Cup. These guys are wonderful and fabulous, funny and
engaging!!
I would rather watch the Cup from NZ with this reporting team than
be in Valencia, they are just so damn KIWI. Every single one
of them deserves a virtual hug and a big thank you for their
excellent and outstanding coverage.
To Dean, Grant and all the guys on our boat; well done
guys, we love you all. Thank you for the memories.
I am so proud to be a New Zealander and although we lost today I
have to say that I have had so much pleasure in the last few months
it will keep me going til we can challenge them and win the Cup in
four years time.
Best wishes to you all
From: Andora Dotchin
You made us proud.
You left "it all" out on the race course.
Go Team New Zealand!!!!
From: The Cowans
Thank you TVNZ for such an enthralling coverage of the America's
Cup! John, Peter and the others did a great job covering the races.
I have never been so proud to be a kiwi watching our boys lead by
Grant D. He must be one of our great all time New Zealanders, along
with Sir Peter Blake and Sir Edmond Hillary.
His leadership of our boys was an inspiration to us all. I would
like you to pass on our admiration and thanks to him, Dean and all
the crew of Team New Zealand for showing the world how good we are!
To us, it was a false victory and the real winners were NEW
ZEALANDERS! You did us proud !
From: Ian and Linda Tilson, Fruitlands Country
Lodge, Alexandra NZ
Well done team!
You made them sweat right to the very last second!
We will support you forever.
From: The Dalton family of Motueka
Wow
What a fantastic result for New Zealand. Yes we didnt get the result we all wanted but hey. Id better to be in the finals then be watching the finals from the sideline. Im so proud of Dean, such a true professional, and he showed the rest of the world that although we are just a small country down under we can certainly be up there with the best!
Thank you Dean and Team New Zealand. So proud to be a
Kiwi!
From: Fleur Malifa
Kia ora.
Thanks for the great coverage of the Americas Cup! Watched the
nailbiter last night and am so proud of Emirates Team New Zealand!
Disappointed, heartbroken for them yes - screaming at the TV
definitely - but so very proud! What great role models to New
Zealanders of all ages (especially the young)!
They epitomised what it means to strive for Excellence, have
Courage, Determination, Commitment and Teamwork, but most of all
Spirit - the Spirit of New Zealand! Be proud of your achievements
Emirates Team New Zealand - you are what true competition is all
about!
Arohanui and Best Wishes
From: Angelique Bidois
Team New Zealand
Thanks for all the wonderful moments, celebrate them! To us you are
winners in so many ways thanks for being loyal! Look forward to
seeing you next time team NZ and TV one, you all did an awesome job
and we are proud Kiwis!
From: Heather
Reality check ETNZ,
Yes we wanted you to win the AC, but I for one don't care that you
lost, you won more than just a silly old mug you won your country
back, we just wanted you too do well, and you've done just that job
done and more.
You've done us proud, there will be other chances other opportunities, you have put right the wrongs of 2003, you can tick that off the list and hold you heads high, for you and "ONLY" you have taken 2 wins off of that tight 5 on Alinghi.
You've made us all immensely proud to be New Zealanders, and do get over it, and keep together as a 'team' all of you, it's only through these trails that you will learn new things, and become stronger.
GO ETNZ GO!
From: Tomothy
To the whole team, congratulations you guys what an awesome
challenge. You may not be bringing the cup home this time but you
are still a winning team. You have made us all really
proud.
From: Lynne
To Dean,Grant,Terry and our America's Cup crew
Thanks so much for all the hard yards and the fabulous sailing that we have been so fortunate to watch back home here in NZ..
You all gave them a taste of KIWI Mana, they will never forget
and know that we will be back next America's Cup so bring it on
Alingi, cause Dean next time you will bring our CUP HOME!!!
Arohanui to you ALL
Supporters to the end!
I really feel for you and hope you stay in charge for another
challenge but please choose a tactician who understands the Power
of the Right.
From: Ron, Invercargill
Bad luck boys. We'll get em net time
From: Nick Hope
Fantastic series! Right down to the wire and not over until the fat
lady sings. Pure MAGIC!
Awesome textbook racing by ENTZ but lady luck was not there. Been
the best racing in my 24 years of seeing my mates in the Cup for
whatever team they are on.
Everyone in New Zealand should be so proud of the lads as the
majority of the sailing community in the world is. Whether they
sail on ENTZ or other team the Kiwi's have made the America's Cup
what it is in the world of sailing!
Hats off and many beers to ENTZ as they are a class act &
the best.
Btw great program.
Well done and cheers.
From: Neil
Hi everybody,
I'm Swiss and I'm writing from Switzerland and I just want to
congratulate with the kiwi team because they proved to be a great
team with strong possibilities to win this America's cup.
I remember last year when I lived for 4 months in Auckland that you
were already excited about this competition and in my opinion this
is the best way to face a challenge: with a lot of
enthusiasm!
I really hope (and I'll bet I will!) to see a Team New Zealand
stronger than ever for the next americas cup!
Greetings!
From: Davide Canavesi
Congratulations on a fantastic challenge Grant, Dean and Crew, and
all those involved in any way in ValeNZia.
You've done NZ proud. I'm so proud of you all.
See ya next time Alinghi.
Best regards
From: Nielsen Family, Whakatane
WOW YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING - DID YOU SEE THAT FINISH? We love you
Team New Zealand! It shows Alinghi ARE easy beats for you guys -
You are the better team & spiritually you guys won it! You made
a powerful statement; no one can deny you know your yachting!
Incredible: you were a couple of races away from taking it off them
that sure shut the critics up but who cares about them That was
enough for us!!! Never give up - Well get them next time! Your
massive crazy fan base will be there with bells on to see you again
in 2011! Youll never be far from our thoughts in the meantime
& don't worry if there are any Alinghi spies around the place
i.e. Brad. Weve got your back, bro!
God bless you. Loyal for life - Ponsonby.

To all at Team New Zealand. You have done
great. Let's sock it to them and win the next 3
races. You all have it in you. You are the
best. Let's bring home the cup. The whole of New Zealand
is with you. You are the greatest. Go get them.
From: Jane
Hi Girls and Boys!!!,
Now don't you forget, you've already won That "Cup" Before,
and you have also won that rather "historical and
significant" "third race"- so, whatever has happened
in-between, you bring it back where is belongs, NZ! We are all
so proud of you, your doing a marvellous job.
From: The Pritchards. P.S. If not belated, HAPPY BIRTHDAY
GRANT!
Hi,
Firstly I must say "GO TEAM NEW ZEALAND"! You still have a
chance to bring the cup home! This has been a fantastic series and
you deefinitely silenced the critics.
From: Alan
Happy Birthday Grant! To all involved with Team NZ we are so proud
of your ability to regroup and rebuild! Your team
culture, dedication, focus and absolute professionalism - inspiring
all kiwi teams. From our little new school entrants right through
to the hardened corporate workplaces of NZ. Save the best for
last!
From: The Smith Family, Northcote
To all of ETNZ,
I've been following the NZ America's Cup efforts ever since KZ7 in Freemantle. I was living in West Australia then, and was proud to see the efforts then.
I believe that you have set the highest standard of any New Zealand challenge, bar none!
Keep up the good work folks, I can see an awful lot of fight left in you.
Regardless of the result you are winners.
Good Luck,
From: Bert Rolston
TVONE's coverage of the America's cup has been
exceptional. The best entertainment in a very long time.
passion & patriotism, suspense and all the ingredients of a
good thriller. When we lose a race we have saddness &
utter despair, anger & a little synicism. Now we are down to one
race left for Alinghi & of course we all hope she sinks. We can
come from behind & change the stakes, either way Emirates Team
NZ have done an outstanding job. Go boy's. do your best. tiny
country, big heart we're with you win, lose or draw.
Again. Well done TVONE what an achievement. Go NZ
From: Gene Hill
Go Boys, and bring that cup home!
Been watching the racing right from the start of the Louis Vuitton,
haven't missed one, and even made a huge banner thats strung up
outside the house.
Being from a sailing background, its been great to see all our
friends who aren't sailors, get into the spirit of the race. Some
of them for the first time.
However, we're rather disappointed in the lack of support that has
been shown for the whole America's Cup. i'm in Christchurch, and
there is nothing anywhere to indicate support for our hard working
team. When the rugby is on there banners and flags all over the
show, but nothing for Grant, Dean and the boys.
I appreciate that the gusto of the '95 campiagn is hard to
duplicate, but come on! I only hope the rest of Aotearoa is more
supportive (and willing to show it!) than this city iin the
south.
GO Team NEW ZEALAND!
Cruising...Grooving...Bringing it home! :)
From: Jesse & Emma
Dear TVNZ
I have watched every race, enjoyed every minute, and wish all
the boys best of luck for the race tonight.
I would however like to ask why you have to keep putting adverts on
during the racing, its very frustrating, when comms were lost with
PJ Montgomery you went to adverts 4 times in 30 minutes - this is
not good enough, we are all staying up late to watch the race not
futile advert breaks at every turn. Please stop and let us watch a
race in full - you wouldn't do it to the All Blacks
Thanks and good luck Team NZ - we are watching in front of the
fire!!
Cheers

Dear TVNZ,
my mummy and daddy are going to bed now - at the same time as me!
They are going to get up and watch Team NZ win the race. Here is a
picture I drew of us winning The America's Cup. Please could you
show it to Team NZ for me.
Mummy says to wish you good wind.
That's all.

you get on top of it. I KNOW !!
Good luck for the next race..

We are so proud of your professionalism and sheer class in
representing New Zealand at the America's Cup yacht racing! You are
indeed the best team and have the best boat. Tomorrow is another
day and we know that you have a better chance than the opposition
to bring that cup home where it belongs. Be strengthened by the
knowledge that the whole of NZ is behind you and supporting you
all. You are sensational, the best! Believe it and go for it!

Bad Luck with the spinnaker!
You absolutely held your nerve and sailed on so well&really
winning every leg. You reeled in alinghi.

over there you should be proud of how you are representing our
country .be strong guys and go and show them that yesterday was a
just a bad day.

you work guys keep it up
From: The Armstrong family
Hi Guys,
Yesterday was unforturnate but it wont happen like that again. You
are the best team and you have the best boat. New Zealand has
turned into a nation of middle of the night TV watchers. I do not
know anyone that is not watching the action. The whole country is
behind you. You can do it, You will do it!. God Bless.
From: Colleen C

Please pass on our thanks to Team New Zealand for the great
racing and
positive attitude to bringing this cup back home.
We believe this cup
can be ours and last nights race was 'in the bag' until the sail
dramas
which was just gut renching to watch. We need this cup
back here as it
is much nicer to watch racing in the day than being up all night
:-)
Also a question - we miss the race commentary of Martin Tasker and Peter Lester - will they be back commentating before the end? Not quite an America's Cup without those two calling some of the shots, alongside Peter Montgomery.
From: Canterbury Fans
Dear Team NZ,
So awesome, so amazing! Your team work is impeccable, your stoicism
and unflappability just incredible. You have done so brilliantly.
We are all incredibly proud of you. You can defeat Alinghi. There
is no doubt in my mind.
Brilliant coverage from all at TVNZ and in ValeNZia.
From: Vivien Graham (Amberley Beach).
Today is history. Tomorrow is a new day, with a new race. Team
New Zealand we're proud of you all and we wish you all the best for
race 6.
Go Hard, Go Proud, Go Team New Zealand!!!!!!!!
Regards
Jill
Bad luck fellas, but a magnificent come back, courageous, and determined. You should be proud, because we are. from landlocked Clinton, half way between Dunedin and Invercargill, I have sat up and watched you every night.
Good for you
Chris
Hey,
Just wanna say thanks for the great online live coverage of the
America's Cup! We've got a TV in our waiting room here but
it's too far from my desk to read the distances so it was great to
be able to give the ambos and the medics updates - as well as
follow the action myself of course :-)

A toast to the fabulous job TNZ are doing in battling for the
America's Cup! Never have I seen a team so calm, so
professional,
so clinically efficient as the current TNZ.
Race by race throughout the LV cup series, disposing of many a
worthy competitor, and now, battling without a moment's letup to
take the cup from a very skilled adversary.
TNZ, don't change a thing, just keep relentlessly pushing.
Your people back here in NZ are proud of you! One Sport, top
job on the coverage too - a very important task!
Just quietly, could those who think Russell Coutts was disloyal
just shut your chops? Nobody moans when rugby stars head off
overseas to foreign teams, why should superb sailors not take on
new and rewarding challenges with other sailing teams? Isn't
it heartwarming to know us kiwi sailors are SO in demand?
Russell Coutts, thanks for your support in the commentary.
From: Brendan, Bay of Islands

Congratulations for all your efforts so far and a HUGE goodluck for
the rest!
Your fantastic to watch and you have done us all sooooo proud! It's
so nice to know there is more to our country than Rugby and league
and the usual! You are all awesome!
Keep up the good work!
Love watching it even late at night before I have a 3am start at
work Being a flight attendant I watch alot of the races and love
it! (especially when i'm overseas!)
Go for it boys! You have what it takes!
Bring that Cup home!
Good luck and love your work!
From: Philly Tucker, Christchurch.
Hey guys in Valencia hope the weather is good over there its
freezing back in nz. I was wondering if you knew much about
Alinghi's keel and bulb design, from what I've seen under the water
it looks wierd. If it is much different how does it compare to
NZL92's bulb and performance?
From: Cup crazy!
Hi Guys, Oh-! so very well done! Keep on thumbing your noses at
them and showing them your blunt end!
Berterelli NO! Dalton YES!
From: NANNIE of Gisborne
Congratulations to the Commentary Team on an outstanding job of
conveying the atmosphere and excitement of the racing to all of us
back here. John McBeth is a splendid ringmaster and the evident
good humour and goodwill comes across very strongly. We've
become as keenly interested in the team as in the sailors and look
forward every night to meeting you all again and catching up on the
news.
The little touches like those opening vignettes with PJ, or Martin Tasker and a mate with their backs to the camera, setting the scene, are inspired. The relentless enthusiasm of PJ (who seems to be permanently one step from the Intensive Care ward) could never be contrived and during crises I find myself getting a bit worried over whether there's enough blood in his adrenalin stream.
Well done, guys! You've added a whole dimension of deep and abiding involvement in the event without any of the hype and hysteria that has invaded so much TV sporting coverage. You must also have enormous reserves of patience to keep on explaining sailing terms to us in simple language and it must get embarrassing having to ask the same banal questions like "How do you feel?" to some guy who is obviously totally wired after just winning or losing a race - and managing to look intelligently absorbed in the equally banal answers!
Finally, one small puzzle. Where have all the Haka's gone? There was that orchestrated stuff at the start of it all but its not the same as grass roots spontenaiety. There surely must be plenty of practitioners amongst the supporters but nary a Haka have we seen all through the Louis Vuitton or Challenger triumphs. Are sailors too gentlemanly to indulge in such things, or have the cameras simply ignored them? At this rate we might have to fly in Carlos Spencer to do a bit of coaching if we do win the Cup.
All best wishes and thanks for adding enormously to many hours of pleasure,
From: Mike Holmes, Dunedin.

Dear TVNZ Sports Team and Team Emirates New Zealand.
My class and I have a few messages for you all! Thanks for the great coverage TVNZ! Flip man, how proud are we to be kiwis after a race like
today? My husband told me I wasn't allowed to cry after we
crossed the finish line first this morning but honestly, how could
you not be hugely moved by pride in this incredible team of kiwis
(and adopted kiwis!) who are doing such amazing things off the
shores of Spain.
Grant Dalton and the team are absolutely incredible and win or lose from here, I just about (I said just about folks!) don't care. I couldn't be any prouder of this team and their unfailing stickability, guts, determination, all round superb effort, and I gotta say, complete lack of airs and graces and theatrics.
TVNZ commentary is absolutely kick arse and I for one really enjoyed Russell Coutts' input into racing (not so much his Alinghi prediction but hey), so well done and thanks to all the team at TVNZ.
Good luck boys,
From: Sarah Blackburn (Balclutha)

Here's a message from Chris Burt:
Huge congratulations to Emirates NZ! Knuckle biting viewing but well worth staying up for and being tired all day. We are all gunning for you so well done Dean and the boys. We KNOW you can do it so bring it home.
Many thanks and good luck,
From: Chris and Tony Burt and all our family in the Wairarapa.
We just wanted to add our support and admiration to the messages
going to the team in Valencia. It's been an absolute thrill
to see Team New Zealand do so well over there. The families
and supporters behind them have made big sacrifices over the past
few years but it has certainly paid off. No matter what the
final outcome we are immensley proud of you all. The loss of
sleep is so worthwhile!!
All the very best for the rest of the races (you are already
winners in our book!)
From: Fleur and Olivia, Remuera
You bloody beauties! ! Go KIWI's. We believe you can do this.
Fanbloodytastic is all we can say. Teamwork, skill, and a bloody

The wind will shift to you're side we have ordered it!!
Good Luck, and if we in our house..get off the end of you're boat. you'll go faster
Luv yah heaps Emirates Team NEW ZEALAND
From: The Hill Family, BOP
Hi,
We have been getting up to watch nearly all of the sailing. Our
compliments to you all on the coverage, great viewing.
Last night was absolutely fantastic - especially the end
result!
How are we going to manage back in NZ without sleep until we get
the cup back? We were up half of last night!
How about you send us all text messages so that we can sleep until
the racing is about to get under way:-))
Thanks guys, see you again tonight
From: Herbert, Jane, Jonathon and Tiffany McMullan
To Team New Zealand and the boys,
Be proud in the knowledge that you have reaffirmed what most kiwis
knew and the rest of the world is starting to realise, that no
amount of money in the world can beat class and
determination.
The true measure of a champion is their ability to overcome
adversity while under extreme pressure and you boys (being the
entire team) have shown that you can do that in spades. Watching
race three this morning reiterates the never say die attitude and
conviction that the team has. We just want the team to know that
although wining the cup would be the icing on the cake, considering
all the sacrifices the team has made you will all go down in
history as one of (if not) the best team in the world.
From our point of view go out there and win the cup, not for New
Zealand but for yourselves. Continue doing what youre doing and
remember you are the better team and he cracks are starting to show
in Alinghi.
Proud supporter of team New Zealand.
From: Dave Linstead
Congratulations to Team New Zealand on your 2nd Win.
Special Thanks to Peter Montgomery for his very obvious Loyalty to
Team New Zealand.
Particularly during his interviews with Coutts. And the insights.
Thank God that Coutts is not on the list of any Local Political
Party !!!!!
I HAD TO GIVE MYSELF CARDIAC MASSAGE TO MAKE IT TO THE END OF THE
RACE !

C'mon Pam, that was 3 years ago, let it go! Russell Coutts is
an expert in his field and The Auld Mug is one of his areas of
expertise. As such his opinions are worth noting - he has
after all been on both sides - and that alone affords him essential
insights to how our competitors operate - although whether he can
share this knowledge is debateable - who knows!
The point is, we can do with all expert opinion that could give us any subtle advantage over and above our competitors - listening closely to what is being said even a casual throwaway remark may provide just the insight needed.
In my humble opinion, the team that maximises the wind shifts
and pressures on the day of sailing, with no onboard errors, will
win the race! Great job to all the commentators - keep up the good
work and we're with you all the way - GO EMIRATES TEAM NZ.!

Really enjoying the cup coverage, extremely well done. All the best to Emirates Team New Zealand. They have been doing a fantastic job what ever happens from here on well done.
Don't know why you had to include Russell Coutes into the mix surely you have a choice of LOYAL NZ supporters without bringing him back.

Congratulations toTEAM NEW ZEALAND still couldnt belive it happened
even though i was watching it happen. But i dont think they can win
or beat Alinghi as on both races even when Team NZ are in front
Alinghi very quickly catch up and pass by massive metres, i dont
know why both times Team NZ have picked the right that the left has
had more wind, it seems to me Alinghi can take either side , catch
Team NZ and pass them way before the first mark?
You can be sure Alinghi will not make another mistake like this morning.

Kia ora John and team,
Please pass on our aroha and warmest wishes to Dean and the team (including all the hard workers "behind-the-scenes". We watch the racing coverage with immense pride and look forward to the finals. Whatever the outcome we are very proud of you all for the comittment and humbleness which is being displayed to represent Aotearoa (NZ).
Was wondering if there's any chance of seeing more of the Valencian sights in between racing if time allows, perhaps something on the culture, arts, language, some spanish guitar music would be fabulous?
Otherwise, keep up the good work and great commentaries John, and team.

When we as Kiwis win the America's Cup back we should definitley
bring back the nationality rule that will definitly eliminate these
billionaires buying sailors to win them the cup if that rule was in
place back in 2003 the cup would still be in NZ we have
the best sailors in the world and bertarelli knew that.
to that end he brought the talent to get him the cup. knowing that
the talent could no be found outside of new zealand for him to win

Thank you TVNZ for the great coverage.
Thank you Team New Zealand for such a magnificent effort after
years of commitment to get to this point.
I have watched most of the Round Robins and all of the Louis
Vuitton Semis and Finals. This is as good as it gets and I feel so
proud of the immense effort that everyone in the whole unit, both
on and off the water, have put into this campaign.
Twenty years ago I bought a little sailing dinghy and experienced
the exhilaration of harnessing the power of the wind for the first
time.
Thirty years ago I started a career in research and development as
a mechanical engineer, and understand what it is to develop new
concepts and to push design limits to ultimate success or
failure.
Forty years ago I met my wife who over the years has taught me to
appreciate things of beauty.
No wonder I find the sight of the New Zealand boat with its sleek
lines slicing through the water and being handled with such skill
so totally captivating.
Thank you for the experience.

Congratulations, what a fabulous win and what a great team.
I care for my elderly parents so no sleep is not an option. Every move is recorded on video and I watch it throughout the next day. My tape ran out before the Cup was handed over last night but what a leed in. We do enjoy Pete and his wealth of knowledge and acquaintances!!!
My following of the Cup began in Western Australia with a 4am start from the "scrub" (a Roadhouse in Pingelly) to Fremantle to vent my fury (verbally) at Dennis Conner for calling us Kiwis "cheats". I cleared my spleen with a great number of other Kiwis and have followed the sporting event ever since (if only I had the memory of Pete, that is why I enjoy his commentary so much, as it's spiced with all things familiar) We watched and basked in being on the ocean with the winning Team NZ in Auckland so we know what the feeling is like, with the crowds of Kiwis and hope you all know that although we are not all present we support you and all you do, always.
GO TEAM NEW ZEALAND!! and thank-you to all the sponsors and benefactors that have made it happen.

To Grant, Dean and all the of Emirates Team NZ crew,
Fantastic result yesterday, congratulations! All your hard work and admirable dedication is paying off. Here's to another 5 victories, lets show Alinghi how its really done, and make it New Zealands Cups again! With our team of over 4 million, they don't stand a chance!! We are all behind you, in NZ and all over the world, supporting you and cheering you on. The excitement is fantastic!
Thanks to all the sponsors too, without their help there
wouldn't be a boat to even get to the start line!

to the celebrations in just over a couple of weeks! Bring it

Now lets bring the Americas cup home. By the way, the commentators

Kia ora,
Greetings to all those involved with Team emirates challenge for the Americas Cup. I would like to thank all those who have given of their time, energy and selflessness in helping our boat its crews and their families go in search of the ultimate goal in this sport. Many thanks must go to TVNZ for keeping us all so well informed and up to date with things as they happen in Valencia.
This is one project that can be touted as a success as it takes a lot of goodwill from many people. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the families who give unconditionally in supporting their whanau and just as importantly ensure that our team are happy and well. So thanks to you all
It would be great to win 5 nil but if that don't happen and the opposition pull back one then don't be disappointed as we know Team NZ will fight to the bitter end a come up smiling

Hi there to everyone,
Just like to say a big thank you to the commentary team there in Valencia and most of all to the men that are out there doing all the work on the water, and doing New Zealand proud. I am caught between watching the cup racing every morning and doing assignments for University studies, I would however much rather watch you guys.

Hi to John & all the TVNZ team,
Thanks heaps for your awsome coverage of the racing. I've stayed up
and watched every night & really enjoyed it. The graphics are
wonderful and explanations of all aspects really helpful. Looking
forward so much to tonight's race.
Since it may be the last time we see Luna Rossa this Cup, I have a
question, if you have time to cover it. It's been intruiging me as
to just who are Alice & Tim and Estrella Damm wo we see
plastered on these boats?
Love to be enlightened, for a bit of fun.
GO ETNZ!!!!!!!
Good on you guys!!!!!
I'll never forget the pride i felt that night standing on stage
holding that huge LOYAL flag with you all singing with Dave Dobbyn,
through the tears and moet.

we appreciate it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
god bless you guys, take care.

Hello to everyone in Valencia
I am watching the live coverage every race - have been since you
started covering Round Robin One. We saw live Act 9 & 10
off Trapani in 2005 and the boats were awesome!
So here I sit with my cat, heater and packet of Tim Tams in my
dressing gown every night at 1.00am, giggling at PJ's off the cuff
comments, excellent commentary, enjoying the views of Valencia and
the crowds, wishing I was there (I almost was too - will be in
England next month, dammit). Anyway, just thought I would
post a message and add my support! I don't want to get too
hopeful about beating Alinghi, but, like the team, am quietly
confident!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All the best
PS. Could you show more of the fabulous J-Class spectator
boats on the water?
From: Michelle
Last won fellows we are so proud of you all. Please make this my

Its great to see our flag as a sail on your return to base
Congratulations to TVNZ on a magnificent coverage.

Go Team Nz, what amazing coverage TVNZ is providing for all the
people at home
Team Nz have a great boat, and a really good crew to match, keep up
the good work boys.
I have read that Nzl 92 & 84 are slab sided. Can some one
tell me, probably Peter Lester, what this means & what are the
advantages of having a slab sided boat??
Thanks Len.
Hello can U please pass on to Emirates Team NZ what an awesome
job they are doing - in the first rounds I just couldn't watch I
was so nervous and now it is hard to believe they are sitting 4-0
in the finals of the LV Cup.
The coverage by all the team is just fantastic and just love Peter
Montgomery's commentaries - the reduced sleep hours are well worth
it - excellent viewing.
Awesome and go Emirates Team NZ - I am sure Peter Blake is adding a
bit extra wind to those sails.
When we originally won the America's Cup I made up my mind I was
going to Auckland and went to the two events and it was just
amazing the feeling as you watched the black boat go out and would
love to be in Valencia, but it is fantastic to see all the young UK
based Kiwis at Valencia lending their support.
GO EMIRATES TEAM NZ
From: Sharyn Lane
Question: Does the crew/team etc wear red socks like they did in
the old days?
Enjoying the racing!
Answer: No they don't wear the red sox, but there are quite a few New Zealand supporters here wearing them. They were obviously of good quality to have lasted this long - 12 years since 1995.

Dear John
I've been suffering from jet-lag since racing started in April -
and am thoroughly enjoying it all. Win or lose,
the team has done us all proud.
You comment at times on the way the NZ crew don't show much emotion on their way into port after winning a race. I was in London when Australia took the Cup from the Americans and wish I'd kept the front page newspapers reports on just how crude, rude and boorish the Australians were when accepting the Cup, with no class whatsoever so I'm very proud of the NZ team with their gracious acceptance of their wins, it shows real class - and also avoids rubbing salt into the wounds of their opponents!
We have glimpses of the kiwis in Valencia lining the docks and cheering as the boat comes in but so far haven't seen them do the same as Luna Rossa passes so I hope they do - the way they welcomed Prada back into port and treated it as New Zealand's second boat rather than a defeated enemy, in 2000.
The skill and control of the kiwis is amazing when viewed from
above - just like a centipede, each pair of legs is moving
independently from the others but all linked together, working as a
well oiled team to move the whole body forward!
I hope the crew is enjoying the actual racing and don't feel the
whole of NZ is a weight on their shoulders!
Best of luck to everyone and many thanks for the total
entertainment.

Amazing what you see at night, looking into the sky before the
race started, you could see a cloud formation that looked almost
identical to a silver fern, good sign I thought and it wasn't
proved wrong either.
Well done boys, 8 more to go but let's not use all of them!
From: Timothy
Thanks for adding John Cutler to your fantastic commentary team
last night. He added a completely different perspective and
explains things (for us non-sailors!) in a really down to earth
style. The TVNZ coverage is amazing!
Thanks

Thanks to everyone for your very positive comments about the coverage. It's made some of us blush, but your comments are all very much appreciated."
There have been some very nice remarks made.
Thanks!
From: John McBeth
Question: Can someone tell me what happens if you have a sail
problem like Oracle did against China Team? Specifically if
the sail is on the water does the team need to retrieve it on the
yacht or can it be cut loose and left behind?
Just that I remember reading that the teams only get a certain number of sails for the round robins and does cutting one loose mean you forfeit it?
Answer: The chase boat can pick up the sail. You'll have by now seen this done a few times. No they don't forfeit the sail. It can continue to be used.
Source: John McBeth
Question: Is it possible to give a summary of the Elapsed times of
both semifinals for each day. I appreciate that the teams are in
separate duels, but could we still get some idea of the comparative
speeds of the two winning boats i.e. is Luna Rossa or Emirates NZ
getting around the course quicker.
Thank you in anticipation
From: Tim Parish
Answer: It's very difficult to get an accurate comparison this way. The conditions might vary significantly even though the two races are on the same course, one race might feature 30 tacks on one beat while another has just a few. There are too many variables.

Congratulations Team New Zealand you have done so well!! I hope the team get a chance to read all of these messages so they know how much support they have and how proud we all are of them. Dean Barker and Grant Dalton are such talented and professional men and Ray Davies seems to be such a knowlegable and likeable man who I always look forward to hearing speak after races. As on previous occasions, you guys are doing a fantastic job
covering the latest America's Cup. The sleep deprivation that
results is tough, but you make it worth bearing.
I thought one of your recent highlights was the interview with Paul
Cayard, who raced against Prada/Luna Rossa in 2000 and has every
reason to know (and admire, as he obviously does) the qualities of
Francesco de Angelis as a skipper. Paul's analysis of the four
semifinalist teams was fascinating, full of insight, and was
clearly spot-on where Oracle was concerned.
Luna Rossa are clearly in devastatingly powerful form, having
magisterially gunned down the reputedly unkillable giant Oracle and
left it dead in the water. Francesco de Angelis must be
relishing the prospect of an opportunity to have revenge for the
5-0 defeat of the 2000 America's Cup (let's not forget that the
word "vendetta" comes from Italy!)-- and, perfect gentleman that he
is, he has also shown that he can be a ruthlessly combative
sportsman Add to that the brilliance of James Spithill, and the LV
Cup final promises to be the thrilling mother and father of all
yachting battles, with Luna Rossa a formidable opponent for
ETNZ. The guys on the Kiwi boat are going to have their work
cut out, but whoever wins one thing's for sure: your coverage will
make the epic all the more enthralling.
Keep it up, guys!
From: Peter in Christchurch
Hi John,
You are so amazing! Versatile, witty, charming, cute, pleasant,
funny, clever, just an all-round-nice-guy, and more!
Thanks for being there. It's worth getting up at midnight just to

WE LOVE YOU!

well worth listening to. He has made an enormous improvement
to your coverage.
Well done!

Dear Emirates Team New Zealand,
What racing you have had on your hands, we have thoroughly enjoyed watching you. Keep the good work up we know you can do it. We are on the edge of our seats in the lounge at 1 or 2am in the morning watching every tack and gibe, its awesome!
Even though you are 4-2 up, to get where you are is incredible and your team has made us very proud. If it was us in ESP's position we would still say the same thing, at the very least have the same feelings for both the sport and your crew.
It's a great day when we compete on the world stage without an
Aussie in sight too(LoL!). We guess all night, please help us so
rather than debate all night, we could celebrate instead.

Hi Grant, Dean, and all the lads,
Well Guys that was a bit of a wake up , the Spanish boat will have their tails up now, watching it on TV we seem to lose the advantage in the starting box which I see as a big worry specially if you's make to the final up against Luna Rossa, which seems to have a speed edge and a very good helmsmen in Spitall.
Speaking about Luna Rossa she seems to have found a few more Knots both Up wind and downwind , She really made BMW Oracle look slow in the water and we all no BMW wasn't. So guys if you do make the final of the LV Cup I hope you can match it speed wise with her because if you cant get those containers ready.
GOOD LUCK GO TEAM NZ
