Phoenix rise from A-League ashes

The Kingz didn't work, neither did the Knights, but rising from the ashes is the Wellington Phoenix.

Yes, that's the new name for the New Zealand's only professional football team which will play in next season's A-League.

Terry Serepisos, who financed Wellington's A-League bid, said there was never any doubt about keeping New Zealand in the title.

Serepisos said around 250 names had been suggested and those were short-listed to a final six before the Phoenix was decided upon.

The name is a fitting one for the side which so nearly missed out on being part of the A-League before being bailed out with a last-minute bid.
