Brian Lara
  Brian Lara (captain)

Age: 37
Left-hand batsman
Average: 40.54
Srike rate:79.46

Lara holds many of the game's batting records but he has found captaincy a more challenging task and the responsibility has frequently had an adverse effect on his form. Nonetheless, his is the wicket opponents will want to claim more than any other.

Ian Bradshaw
Age: 32
Left-arm fast-medium bowler
Wickets: 76
Economy rate: 4.26

A nippy left-arm bowler who, while he has failed to establish himself in test cricket, has became a regular feature

Dwayne Bravo
  Dwayne Bravo

Age: 23
Right-arm medium-fast bowler, right-hand batsman
Economy rate: 5.30
Average: 23.96
Strike rate: 76.20

A genuine all rounder who hails from Santa Cruz, the same area of Trinidad as his captain and mentor Lara. Relies primarily on swing but his slow ball is the most dangerous delivery in his repertoire. Emerged as a top-quality one-day batsman with a century against England in the Champions Trophy in October.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul
  Shivnarine Chanderpaul

Age: 32
Left-hand batsman
Average: 37.99
Strike rate: 70.76

His stance and technique have never impressed the purists but the former West Indies captain's average shows his value particularly in one-day games where his ability to work the ball around and keep the run-rate ticking over has been vital. Expected to open the batting with Chris Gayle.

Corey Collymore
  Corey Collymore

Age: 29
Right-arm fast-medium bowler
Wickets: 77
Economy rate: 4.31

A back injury early in his career resulted in a loss of pace but Collymore adjusted well and has established himself as a reliable medium-quick bowler. His open-chested action means he has to rely on inswing but he varies his pace well and is always tight and economical.

Chris Gayle
  Chris Gayle

Age: 27
Left-hand batsman, right-arm off-break bowler
Average: 38.74
Strike rate: 80.21
Economy rate: 4.64

An aggressive opening batsman who loves to go on the attack early in an innings, Gayle's approach is ideally suited for the one-day game and while critics have pointed out his lack of footwork, his stroke play has rarely suffered due to that deficiency. Has also proved useful in one day games as an off-spin bowler.

Kieron Pollard
Age: 19
Right-hand batsman, right-arm medium pace bowler

A surprise inclusion in the World Cup squad, teenager Pollard has yet to feature on the international stage and has played only five first class games for Trinidad.

Daren Powell
Age: 28.
Right-arm fast-medium bowler
Economy rate: 4.68

The Jamaican struggled to establish himself in the West Indies side but comes into the World Cup after the best spell of form of his career. His impressive spell of four for 27 against India at Cuttack on January 24 was his best one-day performance so far.

Denesh Ramdin
  Denesh Ramdin

Age: 21
Right-hand batsman, wicketkeeper
Average: 27.46
Strike rate: 79.33

Ramdin has come in for some criticism in the past year due to a slump in his form both behind and in front of the stumps but was able to hold off the challenge from Carlton Baugh and keep his place in the squad as first choice keeper.

Marlon Samuels
Age: 26
Right-hand batsman, right-arm off-break
Average: 29.76
Strike rate: 74.03
Economy rate: 4.84

One of several members of the West Indies team who were given their chance on the international scene at a very young age and after limited experience. He broke into the side at the age of 19 on the 2000-2001 tour of Australia despite having yet to represent Jamaica in a first class game. Also a useful off spinner.

Ramnaresh Sarwan
  Ramnaresh Sarwan

Age: 26
Right-hand batsman
Average: 44.33
Strike rate: 76.79

The established vice-captain and number three, Sarwan has suffered from injuries of late which have disrupted his preparation for the World Cup. Impressed on his first tour when he produced the team's best batting average in England. At times has been let down by poor shot selection, frequently getting out to loose shots having built the foundation for a long knock.

Lendl Simmons
Age: 22
Right-hand batsman.
Average: 18.66
Strike rate: 56.56

Opens the batting for Trinidad and nephew of former test player Phil Simmons and will likely start the tournament as back-up for the first choice opening pair of Chanderpaul and Gayle unless he is given a slot in the middle order.

Devon Smith
Age: 25
Left-hand batsman.
Average: 25.12
Economy rate: 61.46.

A solid opening batsman whose style is perhaps better suited to test cricket, Smith has yet to truly establish himself as an international one-day player. to some good performances with Grenada. Ideally would be the man who could glue together an innings with his unspectacular approach complementing the more attack-minded risk-takers in the squad.

Dwayne Smith
Age: 23
Right-hand batsman, right-arm medium-pace bowler
Average:15.58
Strike rate: 98.76.
Economy rate: 4.78

An attacking, at times cavalier, batsman Smith hit the headlines with a rapid-fire debut test century against South Africa but has so far failed to build on that impressive beginning to his international career.

Jerome Taylor
  Jerome Taylor

Age: 22.
Right-arm fast bowler
Economy rate: 4.88

A genuinely quick opening bowler who was given his first call-up at just 18 but a serious back injury in late 2003 put his career on hold. He returned to the West Indies side during the tour of New Zealand in 2006.

Bennett King
Age: 42
Coach

Australian King took over from Gus Logie as West Indies coach in late 2004 and was the first non-Caribbean to have the role. He has no test, or even first-class, experience as a player but served as Centre of Excellence head coach in his home country after coaching Queensland to three consecutive Pura Cup wins. He took on the job in the Caribbean after initially turning down the chance to replace Roger Harper in 2003.
