The Savages are brave and proud of who they are.  The Savages know how to drink, how to drive fast and stay alive.  This West Auckland family has a penchant for fuel-injected autos and alcohol-fuelled socialising.

The wheels on parents Mickey (Nicholas Eadie) and Louise's (Perry Piercy) marriage appear to be rusting, so they decided to head of to their favourite seaside spot for a second honeymoon.  But their incorrigible family gatecrash the sojourn and Mickey is forced to confront a few home truths.

Born and bred in West Auckland, writer/director Mark Beesley is closely adhering to the old adage, 'write what you know' with Savage Honeymoon.

"The Savages are facing the same problems as everyone else but their rule's been No Compromise.  We will not compromise our love, we will not compromise our fun - we just go for it 100 percent of the time," he says. "That's where the Savages begin and end.  They build their whole world around that commitment 'Together Forever' and they will make it work."

"They might seem a bit rough but they have an indominitable spirit and they've got a lot of love.  We call them the family that put the word 'fun' in dysfunctional!" adds Beasley.

"I want people to celebrate that feeling that you may have been married for twenty years but can still have good sex.  That although you're a New Zealander and a Kiwi of few words, you can still express emotion."
