About NZ Idol 2006
New Zealand picked Matt Saunoa as its Idol, in what was called the closest contest yet.
Saunoa beat Aucklander Indira Moala, who had been the odds on favourite to take the title.
The 21-year-old garage builder from Levin was very emotional when host Dominic Bowden announced the result.
Saunoa won $50,000, a new car and a recording contract. He is the third NZ Idol.
