The Big Bounce

Cast: Owen Wilson, Charlie Sheen, Gary Sinise

Director: George Armitage

Owen Wilson (Wedding Crashers) heads an eclectic cast in this comedic crime caper from the director of Grosse Point Blank.

Wilson plays Jack Ryan (!?), a mellow ne'r do well who is fired from a construction job in Hawaii after violently clashing with the site's developer, Ray Ritchie (CSI: New York's Gary Sinise).

Ryan is "requested" by Ritchie's flunky Bob Jr. (Charlie Sheen) to skip town, but Jack sticks around and ends up working for a Judge (Morgan Freeman), who has dealings with Ritchie.

But things get even more complicated when Jack gets mixed up with Ritchie's knock out girlfriend Nancy (Sara Foster - D.E.B.S) and the pair hatch a scheme to rip off her man.

The Big Bounce is based on an early novel by Elmore Leonard, whose works have provided the basis for such notable crime flicks as Get Shorty; Jackie Brown and Out of Sight. It was previously adapted in 1969 with Ryan O'Neal (The Driver) in the lead role.

It is typically Elmore Leonard in it's tone and content - light comedy; shady characters; low rent schemes; and can be enjoyed as unchallenging entertainment thanks principally to the appealing and varied cast. In addition to those mentioned above, former Soccer star Vinnie Jones (X-Men: The Last Stand) and Willie Nelson also make appearances.

The director, George Armitage, covered tonally similar ground with Grosse Point Blank, and the underrated 1989 Alec Baldwin flick Miami Blues.

While The Big Bounce isn't a good as such genre high points as Out Of Sight, it is worth a watch and features lush Hawaiian beach scenery - just the thing for the dead of winter.
