Finding the Right Track
As the National Party outlines its plans to get tougher on youth
offending, we discover a course getting kids back on track with
their lives. These youth come from broken homes, they admit to
terrorising people on the streets as gang members. But now they're
trying to change their ways and learning to respect themselves and
others. And they're doing it within stone's throw of two recent
murder scenes in south Auckland. Michael Holland reports.
National on Youth
Bootcamps, longer sentences, compulsory drug treatment. John Key's
got plenty to say about getting teenagers out of crime and into
jobs. But is it just political waffle or has National's leader hit
on ideas that might just work? Key is live to explain his party's
plan.
Panel Discussion
There's been plenty of reaction to National's policy on youth
justice but how do those working on the frontline see the ideas
being put into practice? Would a tougher line bring bad and
troubled youths into line? We ask Nick Tialii, a former cop who is
now a teacher and counsellor, and Fa'amatua-Enu Wayne Poutoa, who
turned his back on the gangs and works with at-risk youth.
Colin Fry
With two television shows to his name, CDs, DVDs and a book,
British psychic Colin Fry is one of the best in the business. He's
on tour in New Zealand and we caught up with him in Invercargill.
Damian Christie meets the man with the message.
