What it is - Clothing imported from the USA and sold for mark up in retail here. Last year turned over $160k with a net profit of $20k.

How it benefits - Gives feeling of uniqueness. Huge high-end market for known brands. Never had one dissatisfied customer. Wants to open up 2 more stores initially as well go to the US to deal with the suppliers.

The deal they are looking for - $100k for 10% - Percentage negotiable but ratio is not up to $400k for 40%.

The Dragons' offer -

Sir Bob Jones: Doesn't want to be involved in activity. Pulls out.

Paul Webb: Can't take it seriously. Pulls out.

Julie Christie: Market's too crowded so pulls out.

Barry Colman: Not his scene. Pulls out.

Annette Presley: Needs business mentor. Pulls out.

Final decision: Goes with nothing.


Robyn Henderson

The Garden Bug - Living Herb Holder

What it is - Herb Holder for kitchen.

How it benefits - Looks funk and helps herbs breathe and last longer.

The deal they are looking for -$50k for 20%. She has sold 17,000 units. Cost per unit is $6 and sells for $10 wholesale. She wants to produce in China to increase profit margin. With volume, the business could be fantastic. Targeting home owners aged 25-60. Retail price $26.

The Dragons' offer -

Sir Bob Jones: Doesn't like product but thinks people would buy it. Offers Annette and Paul to come in for half. 20% each. Both dragons refuse so he pulls out.

Paul Webb: Wants 40%. Offers promotion through his media company.

Julie Christie: Would buy the product but doesn't think she'll sell enough units. Pulls out.

Barry Colman: Not something he could be interested in. Pulls out.

Annette Presley: Offers 40%. Not negotiable. Could offer internet exposure. Has access to 130,000 customers.

Final decision: Agrees to 40%. Goes with Paul as Annette didn't have skills she needed.

Jafa Bites

What it is - Chocolate giant biscuit with a 'Jafa' on top. Sweet shortbread biscuit.

How it benefits - Better than any comparable product.

The deal they are looking for - $50k for 30%. Sold over 7000 units last year at a turnover of $6,350. Profit numbers are not available.

The Dragons' offer -

Sir Bob Jones: Thinks name is too similar to Cadbury's brand name. Not a natural mix either. Pulls out.

Paul Webb: Pulls out.

Julie Christie: Thinks she would buy into legal action. Pulls out.

Barry Colman: Not credible. Pulls out.

Annette Presley: Not interested because can't understand how he can't say the profit.

Final decision: Leaves with nothing.


Rebekka Plane

Kumfy Cotton

What it is - Range of clothing in cotton to prevent kids with eczema from scratching themselves.

How it benefits - Very soft cotton which can be used as a sleep suit so their creams can come into effect without them scratching.

The deal they are looking for - $80k for 25%. Turnover for last 18 months was $25k. Manufactured in NZ but moving to Vietnam for production costs. Prices will come down. Cost of manufacture at the moment is $45 but in Vietnam would be only $15. Would sell for $48.

The Dragons' offer -

Sir Bob Jones: Can't see how anything's necessary beyond mittens.

Julie Christie: Would be in for the deal being asked. Can bring the retailing expertise.

Paul Webb: Agrees to go in with a larger percentage to offer more to the company. Go in with Barry and Julie at 17% each. Can use his media company to generate advertising.

Barry Colman: Like's Paul's proposal because she would need more money. Can offer experience in setting up a successful business.

Annette Presley: Doesn't know enough about the market to be able to go ahead. Pulls out.

Final decision: Goes with the offer from the three dragons and retains 49% share.
