A reformed Crowded House is expected to perform at a major American music festival in April.

The news comes after confirmation band front man Neil Finn and bass player Nick Seymour have started auditioning drummers.

Julia Connolly, a spokeswoman for Finn's office, told the Dominion Post newspaper that further auditions were planned in Auckland and Los Angeles. "At the moment, they're just working at getting the band together," she said. "Something's formally coming out once the band is in place."

US newspapers report Crowded House is among a number of bands anticipated to be named in the line up of the 2007 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

Rage Against The Machine are also tipped to be reforming for the festival.

The Dominion Post said Finn's British-based managers were due to make an announcement this week and, judging from the buzzing traffic on fan website www.frenz.com, fans were eager for dates.
