A Christchurch man who outbid an American for Burt Munro's original motorcycle trailer says he was lucky to take part in the bidding game.
Terry Dalton stumbled across the find on eBay and successfully brought the 1960s trailer back into the country last month.
He says its owners, a retired couple who ran the Indian Motorcycle company in California, had stored the trailer in their backyard for over 30 years.
Dalton says the trailer had to be held in secret storage until it was moved out of the country because the couple had received threats about its sale to a Kiwi.
