Troubled British supermodel Kate Moss faces new tabloid allegations of drug abuse, this time involving a potent livestock anaesthetic nicknamed "Special K".

The Daily Mirror quoted a former model, who it did not identify, as claiming that she witnessed Moss, 31, snorting Ketamine as well as cocaine at a late-night party in a London apartment five years ago.

"We were at a party at a lovely flat by the Thames," the model was quoted as telling the newspaper, which first published images nine days earlier of Moss apparently snorting cocaine at a London recording studio.

"Kate used a credit card to cut up the powder, then hoovered hers up first. She was quite greedy. She was like a machine."

"Then she wiped her nose and started jumping around the room like a mad woman. She was going on about 'Special K', saying how great it was."

Experts say Ketamine, created in the 1960s for veterinary use, can cause delirium, amnesia, depression and long-term memory and cognitive problems. For some, the effect is known as a "K-Hole" or "out of body" experience.

Moss issued a statement on Thursday claiming "full responsibility" for her conduct, after Swedish fashion retailer H and M and British trench coat purveyor Burberry dropped her from
their advertising campaigns.

French fashion house Chanel said it would not renew its contract with Moss when it expires next month, while British cosmetics brand Rimmel - while welcoming her apology - held back from saying if it too would drop her.

"I am trying to be positive, and the support and love I have received are invaluable," Moss said in her statement, issued through her agent Storm.

Adding to Moss's woes, London's Metropolitan Police said it would look into the drug allegations to see whether she should face criminal charges, while social workers mulled over whether to act to protect her young daughter.

The virtual collapse of Moss's career in the space of just one week dominated gossip at London Fashion Week which concluded on Thursday.

The grainy images in the Daily Mirror on September 15 showed Moss apparently snorting cocaine in a west London studio where her rock-star boyfriend Pete Doherty, a self-confessed drug addict, was recording.

Doherty, who fronts a band called Babyshambles, said yesterday that people were "obsessed" with Moss and he could not understand the hype around their relationship.Troubled British supermodel Kate Moss faces new tabloid allegations of drug abuse, this time involving a potent livestock anaesthetic nicknamed "Special K".
