The word has gone out to worm hunters from far and wide to help a special kiwi with a big appetite.

Mohua is slowly recovering from serious injury and chewing through more worms than her keepers can find. She broke the tip off her beak nearly two years ago when she was being transported and it was feared she may have to be put down because she couldn't feed herself.

Mohua's beak is now healing and she is making up for lost time. But her nose is still too sensitive to dig in hard ground for herself.

The great spotted kiwi routinely has 650 worms for dinner, plus huhu grubs for dessert.

Shaun Horan from the Willowbank Wildlife Reserve says huhu grubs are like chocolate for a kiwi and full of protein.

Willowbank has been inundated with worm donations after asking for help but Mohua is to keep this very hungry lady satisfied appetite will keep increasing and more wriggly donations will be gratefully received.
