Make your own play dough
There are a zillion things you can do with play dough - your
imagination is really the only limit. Here's a good, safe recipe
for making your own:
What you need:
- 1 cup of flour
- 1/2 cup of salt
- 1 cup of water
- 2 teaspoons of food colouring
- 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
What to do:
Get one of your parents to help you get all the ingredients
together. Then you mix the salt and flour. Combine the food
colouring and the water and add them to the flour a little at a
time until you have a thick dough (It may take a little less or
more water). Add the vegetable oil and mix it in with your
hands.
You should end up with a nice lumb of play dough that it is easy to mould. You can make different batches with different food colours. If you store it in an air tight container in the fridge you can keep it for weeks!
You can shape the play dough into whatever you want with just your hands. Look at the cool rabbit in the picture. If that's not enough fun, gather together some shaping tools like plastic cutlery, a rolling pin and cookie cutters.
To make Christmas ornaments, roll the play dough out, cut out
some stars or other shapes with a cookie cutter and make a small
hole in the top. Then get a parent to bake them in the oven at 180
degrees for 10 minutes. When it cools it will be hard and you can
thread a string through the hole and hang them.
