On the last episode, screened December 23:

Midsomer Rhapsody

The retired music teacher, Arthur Leggot, is battered to death in his house, and Barnaby and Scott start wondering if he surprised someone looking for an original musical score that could be worth a fortune.

About the show:

Nothing is what it seems behind the well-trimmed hedges of the picturesque cottages in the idyllic English countryside of Midsomer.

Beneath the tranquil surface of sleepy village life, there exist dark secrets, scandals and downright evil. Murder, kidnap and blackmail are commonplace among the eccentric inhabitants of Midsomer.

Midsomer Murders is a long running TV series of contemporary murder mysteries, based on the award winning Inspector Barnaby novels by mystery writer Caroline Graham, who the Sunday Times describes as "the best detective writer since Agatha Christie".

In each episode, the peacefulness of the Midsomer community is shattered by violent crimes, suspects are placed under suspicion, and it is Detective Chief Inspector Barnaby, played by John Nettles (Bergerac), together with his faithful assistant Sergeant Scott (John Hopkins - later episodes) to calmly and diligently eliminate the innocent and ruthlessly pursue the guilty.

Midsomer Murders is now one of ITV's longest running detective drama series and is on air internationally in over 180 countries. With lots more murders, betrayal, and blackmail, no one will be safe in a Midsomer village for a long time to come.
