New Zealand's wine exports earned a record $611 million for the year to December - more than double the value of wine exports just two and a half years ago and a rise of 30% on the year before.
The Global Marketing Director for New Zealand Winegrowers, Chris Yorke, credits the record 2006 vintage and a strong export driver for the result.
He says as well as continued growth in the core markets of the UK, US and Australia, there were encouraging rises in secondary markets such as Canada, Denmark and Ireland.
Sauvignon Blanc continues to lead export volumes, but with a 25% growth in volume sold last year, Pinot Noir is establishing itself firmly as second favourite.
