Four major forestry groups have sent MPs their proposals for solving what they call a policy vacuum on meeting greenhouse gas emission targets.
New Zealand is not expected to meet its greenhouse gas targets under the Kyoto protocol by 2012 and may have to buy credits on the emissions trading scheme.
The four major forestry groups say since the carbon tax was dropped in December there has been a lack of direction from the government.
They want a carbon trading market introduced, the deforestation cap dropped and for foresters to benefit financially from their carbon sinks.
