A man who enrolled his dog to vote in last week's election, claims he did not use the dog's vote.
Central Otago farmer Peter Rhodes, 28, enrolled his Jack Russell terrier as a joke, but electoral enrolment centre manager Murray Wicks has referred the matter to police.
Wicks says he would support the maximum jail term of three months being handed down to Rhodes.
The Electoral Enrolment Centre initially said the irregularity was an isolated event, but a Christchurch man has since come forward to say his 16-year-old son was allowed to enrol.
The centre says it will continue to review its checking procedures after the claim.
The Christchurch father says his son was approached on the street and asked to enrol.
Wicks says if the claim about the 16-year-old is true, that is only two fraudulent enrolment forms out of 2.85 million.
He says he doesn't think people need to be asked for identification, but says the centre will continue to review and tighten its procedures.
