Troy Flavell is in hot demand with three New Zealand Super 14 franchises in the race to sign the former All Black when he returns from Japan for next season.
Flavell will finish his two-year deal with Japan club Toyota in time to start next year's Super 14 and the Blues, Hurricanes and Crusaders have all shown interest in the 1.95m lock or blindside flanker.
All Blacks coach Graham Henry has also indicated his desire for Flavell to return and be part of the All Blacks building towards the 2007 World Cup.
The 28-year old has played 15 tests for the All Blacks and All Blacks forwards coach Steve Hansen at the end of the Tri-Nations expressed the need for a loose forward who could be a strong lineout option while also doing all the things the current loose forwards can do and Flavell fits that bill.
A fiery temperament has caused problems for Flavell at all levels of rugby but it is hoped with more experience under his belt now he has eradicated that part of his game.
Before Flavell left for Japan he played his rugby for North Harbour and the Blues.
