Five people have died on the roads this weekend and police say bad weather has contributed to all but one of the crashes.

One person was killed and another seriously injured when their car rolled just south of Dargaville on Saturday morning.

Three people died in the worst smash at Rangiriri near Huntly on Saturday night, when a car and a van collided.

Senior Sargeant Pete Simpson of the Huntly Police said people need to know that they need to slow down and beware of the road conditions.

Two 20-year-old men in a Honda and the 47- year-old female van driver died at the scene.

A man was also killed in a head-on collision near Tauranga last night.
