An Auckland car company has been fined $15,000 for misleading customers.
Park 2 Sell was negotiating cheaper prices for some cars if clients signed a form saying there was no warranty on the car because it was sold on a "tender" basis.
While tender sales are exempt from warranties, Park 2 Sell was not offering a genuine tender because the purchase prices had already been agreed with the buyers.
Commerce Commission director of fair trading Deborah Battell is aware of a number of car dealers who were using the sham tender process to avoid their legal obligations.
