An enterprising tourism operator is hoping to cash in on Taranaki's shark frenzy.
A great white has been seen off the coast of New Plymouth a number of times this summer and Dave Chadfield has come up with a novel way to make money from it.
In the past three weeks there have been daily sightings of a six metre great white shark off the New Plymouth coast.
The shark has become known as the Taranaki terror and beaches have been closed in its wake.
Chadfield is taking sightseeing tours around the great white's feeding ground. And to make sure the tourists get their $30 worth he's put wooden fins in the water.
"I made this shark not like the ordinary shark...I made it to be a lot more active. Where it can glide up towards the seals and make out it's going to attack them... and the seals are actually playing and reacting to it," says Chadfield.
