A Kaikohe dairy farmer's claim that he shot his boss in a rage after the man made a gay pass at him has been rubbished in court.
Craig Ross says he had put up with sexual advances from Robert Green, 53, for years, and snapped last August after the man went too far.
But the Crown says he executed Green, before kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman who cannot be named.
Ross says he woke up after milking to find his boss in his bed, naked from the waist down, interfering with him.
He says he "lost it" later that day, and shot the man at point blank range in the back of the head.
"It felt as though I couldn't control what I was doing like watching something on TV, something just happened without being able to do something about it," Ross said.
The jury in the case must decide whether Green's actions were so provocative they led Ross to lose control and kill him, or whether Ross is simply guilty of a cold blooded murder.
Ross told the court Green had pressured him for sex, since he started working for him as a 16-year-old farm hand.
Ross said he could not remember telling a policeman after the killing that he did not know why he had done it.
He told the court the shooting haunts him to this day. The trial is set to last for another week.
