New figures show Wellington and Auckland are significantly cheaper to live in than the main Australian cities.
A Mercer Human Resource Consulting survey of the world's most expensive cities, places Auckland at 100th and Wellington at 150th.
Sydney was ranked 19th - the most expensive city in Australasia.
A Mercer spokesperson, Rob Knox, says the results are good news for New Zealand as the country also scored highly in its recent quality of life survey.
He says it provides an attractive package for organisations thinking of relocating or expanding their business.
