MAF hopes to have some answers on Wednesday about where a snake head found in a Napier street came from.

Three children found the severed head in a roadside gutter outside their Tamatea Street on Monday night.

Experts are baffled by how it got there and also by what type of snake it is.

John Lawrence was astounded when his four-year-old came inside holding it, but he says what shocked him even more, was it looked like it had been killed in the past 48 hours.

Lawrence says the head was black, white and grey, and had a mouth big enough to hold a ping pong ball.
