The Samoan Diabetes Association says a $US500,000 fund will be used for training workshops to help reduce the incidence of diabetes in the country. The money, from the Denmark-based World Diabetes Foundation, is to help make people more aware of the disease.
The association's vice president, Fesola'i Fa'amanatu Nielsen, says it will also show the population how they can prevent the disease through lifestyle choices regarding food and diet. He says the project may start in about two months and run for about two years.
Diabetes affects about 20% of the Samoan population.
