Maori and NF clash over treaty

There were ugly scenes at the main Waitangi gathering in Manukau City on Monday with local Maori and the National Front coming close to blows.
 
The trouble started when National Front members began calling for the government to honour an english language version of the Treaty.

"Hobson's lost final draft has been found and it is not being recognised by government," said a National Front spokesperson.

Many Maori were incensed by the claims of the extreme right group.

However it was the sour point of what was a largely peaceful day - one which has, for the most part, brought New Zealanders together.
