Vodafone says it is trying to track down the mobile phone customer who sent hoax text messages to other Vodafone users, causing major headaches for the police.
The prank began on Saturday and promises free air time to anyone who forwards the text message on to 13 other people.
Customers are told to phone what is a direct, non-emergency number for people to report traffic incidents, if they do not receive the credit.
Leigh Owens from Vodafone says the hoax has impacted on police work and the company hopes to find whoever is responsible in the next couple of days. She says the person will be referred onto the police for questioning and possible charges.
