A Fair Go investigation has revealed an Auckland telemarketing operation is raising hundreds, perhaps thousands of dollars per night, for charities that don't appear to be genuine .
Shaune Lindsay John Malloch runs a telemarketing business from inside his Auckland apartment which he says raises funds for things like road safety and crime prevention.
Two of the telemarketers say they each raise hundreds of dollars a night in donations.
Four years ago Malloch made a bizarre appearance on Fair Go when he claimed to be raising money for road safety booklets for schools.
This time he's pushing at least three different causes - the Auckland Animal Rescue, the Community Crime Prevention Trust Limited and the Community Care Support Trust.
However, animal welfare organisations in Auckland say they have never heard of Auckland Animal Rescue and there is no company registered as the Community Crime Prevention Trust Limited. The Community Care Support Trust is actually a limited company, not a trust.
Malloch also claims to distribute safety flags for school crossings, yet the two schools he said have received his road safety flags have never heard of him and have never received anything.
Malloch refuses to say how much money is being raised, and - importantly - how much is actually being spent for charities.
