Men in hospital after ram raid

Two men ended up in Waikato Hospital after allegedly being involved in a ram raid at a service station in Bell Block near New Plymouth.

Taranaki police say the pair were in a van stolen from Auckland which was seen on CCTV smashing into the service station.

They got away with some cigarettes, but later crashed the van, and had to be flown to Waikato Hospital.

The 17-year-old driver will appear in the Hamilton District Court on Monday.

A 20-year-old man remains in a serious condition in Waikato Hospital with head and leg injuries.
