Since the Aramoana massacre in 1990, murderer David Gray and the New Zealand town have become inextricably linked.
Sixteen years ago on November 13, Gray murdered 13 people in cold blood over 24 harrowing hours, before being shot dead by police.
The real life version of events was first made into a book, and now it has become a movie.
Out of the Blue tells the stories of those who died at Gray's hands and just as importantly, those who survived.
On Tuesday it premieres at the Toronto Film Festival.
While some locals were not in favour of the project, others including survivors have embraced the film by even helping out the young actors who portray them.
Close Up's Jendy Harper offers viewers the chance to see some of the movie for the first time.
