Hastings District Council has given the green light for what's billed as New Zealand's largest wind farm.
Hawke's Bay Wind Farm plans to build a 75 turbine farm in Maungaharuru and Te Waka ranges between Napier and Taupo.
The 220 megawatt farm would supply 2% of New Zealand's current electricity consumption, enough power for over 100,000 homes.
The company says depending on whether there are any appeals, it plans to start work this summer.
Construction of the first turbine is expected by the end of 2006.
