Arsenal's Robin van Persie is no longer a suspect in a rape
case, a spokeswoman for Rotterdam's public prosecutor said on
Wednesday.
The case has been dismissed for lack of evidence, she
said.
The Dutch winger was arrested on suspicion of rape in
June.
Prosecutors said, after a thorough investigation, that no sexual
contact with coercion happened.
The suspected rape incident took place in a hotel in Rotterdam.
There were also two unnamed men with van Persie.
At first, van Persie denied having sexual contact with the woman,
named only as Sandra K, but later said that sexual contact had
taken place.
Van Persie's lawyer Bram Moszkowicz, said: "That is great, I am
very glad for him... I request that the prosecutor's office will
conclude the matter."
The 25-year-old woman involved can appeal against the decision not
to proceed with the case.
