About the Show

Three ordinary families will embark on the adventure of their lives living in some of the world's most primitive cultures.

Imagine living in one of the most primitive cultures on the planet. With a tribe where women are forbidden to wash. Where your home is made from cow dung, and in order to feed your family you must hunt monkeys and eat dog meat. There's no electricity, no running water, and no bed to sleep on and insects, snakes and scorpions are just part of daily life. Could you survive the Tribes?

Take three average Kiwi families, living in their comfortable home, with running hot water, food in the fridge and warm beds at night. What happens when you take these families out of their cosy lives and drop them in the middle of three of the world's most remote and primitive tribes?

Ticket To The Tribes is a new reality documentary series where three average suburban families swap their ordinary kiwi lives for a completely unknown and primitive environment. For ten gruelling days they must live in exactly the same way as the tribal people - working as they do, sleeping as they do, and eating the same food even when that means having to kill it first.

They will face constant tests and will be judged by a 'Tribal Council' of wise men, who will evaluate each family's skill in adapting to their new life. Succeed and they will become one with the tribe. Fail, and they will be punished and banished - bringing disgrace on themselves and New Zealand.

Helped by the locals, the family must integrate itself as fast as possible. Not an easy task because even the most basic Western commodities aren't available: no electricity or running water, no soft mattress or coffee for breakfast not even privacy. Try this when you can't live without your hair straighteners and are terrified of insects!

The clash between the two cultures is sometimes confrontational, most of the time very amusing and often completely hilarious. The families arrive in this totally unknown environment, not knowing the language or the age-old customs.

But it's not just one-way traffic: the local people are also interested in learning about their guest's way of living. The tribesmen will find our Kiwi visitors equally as bizarre and unusual! Subtitled interviews and conversations with the tribespeople reveal fascinating and sometimes hilarious insights.

Ticket To The Tribes tells the unique story of three ordinary families who go on an extraordinary journey. There is extreme culture clash and confrontation; but also laughter, learning and friendship. Each family reacts differently to the challenges of their new lifestyle, but ultimately the bizarre and sometimes shocking encounters turn out to be an enriching and life-changing experience.
