MATERNITY FASHION

Maternity and Fashion were two words that used to be mutually exclusive. All of this has changed. Stylist Sally-ann Moffat is here to show us what is new in the world of maternity fashion.

Keep it sleek. The days of wearing the huge smock dresses to 'hide' your pregnancy are over. Covering up in big, baggy clothes is tempting, but not flattering. Instead, show off your rounder shape with slim, close-fitting styles; a smooth silhouette is key to remaining fashionable.

Treat yourself. Accept the fact that your feet are growing -- go buy a fantastic pair of open-toed shoes! Get a good haircut. Enjoy a manicure or yoga class. And make an appointment for a prenatal massage. After all, a sense of fashion comes from within.

Get a great pair of maternity jeans. Jeans are required wearing for feeling fashionable. Maternity jeans are known for their remarkable fit, thanks to the low waistband that cradles your belly and supports your back. They also come in a wide range of fashion styles and cuts.

Dress in layers, so you can strip: You are a walking hormone and because you are circulating a lot more blood than usual, you are going to be a lot more HOT. Dress yourself with this in mind. Wrap tops like this Mobea example are great as you can easily unwrap them to keep cool.

Soft, easy-care fabrics: Stick with soft, natural fabrics that are breathable and are wash and wear. Do you need to be ironing? No. Check care instructions religiously before you buy. You'll probably find yourself cycling through your maternity wardrobe faster than you would your regular one, so do invest in clothing with of quality construction and made with durable fabrics that can bear frequent washing.

Mix and match: Wear your maternity jeans with everyday clothing like this seasons wrap dresses and empire lines. You'll find that you'll get a lot more bang for your buck and you will wear everything well after your pregnancy, the new maternity wear is built to last.

Low-heeled open toed shoes: Pregnancy doesn't have to cramp your foot... style. Yes, your feet may get bigger - as much as one-half size bigger! And the added weight of baby won't make those heels any more pleasant to wear. Heels are fine for special occasions - occasionally, but do adopt a comfy, fashionable pair of low-heeled shoes for everyday wear.

Let your fingers do the typing: Shop online! You can shop extensive online collections from a variety of maternity fashion outlets. Get what you like at the best prices, and save your aching back, your aching feet, your aching pubic bone, etc. in the process. Today's examples are from:
