Steve Logan
Manager and Co-owner of Logan Brown Restaurant & Bar

Growing up in a family that, while eating breakfast, will enthusiastically discuss what they will be having for lunch and dinner, Steve loves cooking and best of all, sitting down to a generous spread of wonderful food and wine with great company.

Steve Logan has 25 years experience in the hospitality industry.  After graduating with a Diploma in Hotel and Catering Administration in 1981, Steve gained international experience in restaurants in England, USA and Sweden in roles including Sous Chef and Restaurant Manager.

On his return to New Zealand, he worked for Independent Taverns as a General Manager.  In 1988 he then established and managed, from the kitchen, two successful Wellington restaurants, Brer Fox Café initially, and later, Café Laffite.

In 1996 Steve got together with friend Al Brown to open the 80-seat Logan Brown Restaurant & Bar.  Considering Al Brown's formidable cooking prowess, Steve's role changed from Chef to General Manager where he could better utilise his business experience and management skills.  Still, Steve does relish being invited to give feedback on new dishes coming out of Logan Brown's kitchen!

In 2003, Steve's restaurant management skills were recognised by his peers in the hospitality industry, when he won the Felix Award for Best Restaurateur.

Steve loves cooking and enjoying delicious food and wine with friends and family, including his partner Annette, and daughters Lucy and Hattie. Bliss for Steve is a delicious five-course dinner matched with red wines and great friends, followed by a rugby test match against the Aussies on the box!
Some thoughts:

  • If you love your friends or family, show them by treating them to great food and wine.
  • The perfect dish is one where the main component is the hero, perfectly cooked and garnished with flavours and textures that make it taste even better.
  • In the hospitality business you rest on your laurels at your own peril.
  • I love the first smell and taste of a delicious glass of wine - then I just like drinking it.
