Sue Tyler's craft - Mini pinatas for Valentine's Day - 13 February

These make excellent gifts for Valentines Day treats. They will also be great to use in April as Easter eggs.

  Tools and materials

  • White craft glue
  • Water
  • Brush
  • Tissue paper
  • Water balloons
  • String
  • Card or paper
  • Things for inside your piñatas
  1. Prepare piñata shape
Blow up water balloons to size you want
Tie a knot and then tie a length of sting to the knot
  2. Prepare glue
Make a mix of half glue half water
  3. Prepare tissue paper
    Rip paper into small squares

Making

  1. Place tissue paper on balloon and brush over with glue mix
Cover the entire balloon leaving a smallish hole at the top
Add 2-3 more layers of tissue
  2. Let everything dry
This is where the string come in useful as you can hang all your piñatas from a coat hanger, which makes for extra fast drying.
  3. Make a small card saying...
'Pull me', 'Pull this', 'Pull here' etc.
Poke a hole in the card
    Thread string through the card
Tie both bits of string together to make a loop
  4. Pop the balloon
The balloon should lift away from your piñata really easily
If it doesn't, your piñata might not be dry enough
  5. Pour some candy or a note or a small gift in your piñata
If the candy is not already wrapped up, place it inside a small bag first.
That keeps it fresh and clean.
Notes can be anything you want
  6. Place half of your string loop inside the piñata and leave the other half dangling out.
Using long strips of tissue, glue over the hole at the top of the piñata.
Let everything dry and you are finished.

To open the piñata all someone needs to do is pull the string and it should open easily, however if it take a little longer that just adds to the fun.
