A 44-year-old man has died after his chute collapsed while paraponting in Christchurch on Tuesday.
Witnesses reported seeing the man's chute collapse shortly after take off from Summit Road in Port Hills around 5.40pm, Inspector John Doherty of southern police communications says.
The man fell about 20m and died at the scene.
Police believed he was doing a private jump and was not part of any group or organised event.
