A debut movie made on the cheap by a young Kiwi actress and writer has had its premiere on London's West End.
The romantic comedy has won distribution deals in Europe and the United States but is unable to get one in New Zealand.
The low budget chick flick, made by Christchurch-born Emily Corcoran over five years, is about a Kiwi farm girl who travels to London to find her half sister.
The half sister turns out to be very chic and upper-class and is completely embarrassed by Corcoran's character.
Corcoran was inspired to write Sisterhood after she had been ripped off by a conman in an earlier film deal.
She worked the phones and hit up friends to raise the money to make the movie, and got her whole family involved in the production.
She also plays one of the leads, farm girl Shirley.
"We're a success over on the other side of the world and we'll be a success at home" Corcocan says about her film.
