Napier's roof-dwelling Tin Kong is about to become homeless and the search is on for someone willing to adopt him.

The corrugated iron gorilla has sat atop Napier's local museum for the past eight years, on loan from his owner.

But now the building is about to be demolished and Kong is up for sale.

"I will miss him. I'm really hopeful that somebody on the parade will find a home for him, a suitable roof that he can go and live on. But if he has to go out of town to stay intact, that's fine too," says Margaret MacKereth, Tin Kong's owner.

The gorilla was designed in the early 1990s by artist Jeff Thomson who was also responsible for Taihape's famous gumboot.
