Money owed by child support defaulters is on the rise.
Figures from Inland Revenue reveal child support debt for the last financial year was over $1.3 billion, up almost $170 million.
It's also around $500 million higher than amounts recorded in 2004.
Inland Revenue says factors contributing to the increase are external economic conditions impacting on household, and reassessment of default debtors living in Australia.
IRD also indicates a significant amount of child support debt is more than five years old.
