Until now, home automation has been complicated and very expensive, but new technology means computerising your home is becoming much easier.
Rob Wilcox has turned his family's house into what he calls a "digital home" and believes it is an indication of how we will live in the future.
From his TV screen in the lounge he can bring up his family photographs and videos, all controlled by Windows Vista. He is also able to control the temperature around the house and even power consumption in household appliances using a system he has designed.
And if you thought that was a bit tech mad, he has even
installed the system installed in his car so he can dial in and
make sure he has set the alarm and turn the heating on for before
they get home.
