World champion rower Mahe Drysdale hopes New Zealand Rowing will make a call on who will represent New Zealand in the single sculls at the Olympics before the trials in March.
2000 Sydney gold medalist Rob Waddell's returned to the sport and cruised to a win over Drysdale on Lake Karapiro at the weekend.
The two are set to battle it out for the Olympic nomination but Drysdale hopes the call is made sooner rather than later.
He says it's probably the situation that Hamish Carter ended up in 2000 when told he hand to qualify for the World Champs and peaked then, ultimately to pay the price at the Olympics.
Drysdale says if they both aim to peak in March it will affect their ability to hit top gear at August's Olympics.
