Body near track is Israeli tourist

A post mortem examination has confirmed the body found in dense bush in Fiordland is that of Israeli tourist Liat Okin.

The 35-year-old disappeared while walking the popular Routeburn Track nearly two months ago and was last seen on March 26 at the Mackenzie Hut.

Okin's body had been discovered off the Routeburn Track near where Israeli tourist went missing.

Inspector Andrew Burns says the cause of her death and all issues surrounding it have now been referred to the coroner.

Private searchers found Okin's body late on Friday morning, after items belonging to to the tourist were found nearby on Thursday by a private search team.

Police joined private searches on Friday and had to contend with remote areas of dense bush and bad weather.
 
Police say Okin's family have been advised of the discovery of the body.
