The Auckland Regional Council is confident parliament will pass legislation forcing public transport operators to work together.
The Transport Services Licensing Bill would give regional councils the power to enforce quality and performance standards for all operators.
It also requires companies to produce an integrated ticket system.
ARC Chairman Mike Lee says the new law would offer commuters a more efficient and cost effective way to travel.
He is confident a one-ticket-system will ease traffic congestion, reduce pollution and make it easier to travel around Auckland.
