Around 300 people in Auckland have demonstrated against the Therapeutic Medicines Bill.
Organiser Nicola Grace says she was expecting a lot more.
The bill aims to set up a trans-Tasman regulatory agency for therapeutic products.
Currently there is minimal regulation of medical devices and complementary medicines in New Zealand.
But Grace says, with New Zealand First leader Winston Peters voicing his opposition, the bill will fail.
She says the question now is how serious the Australian authorities are in wanting to control New Zealand's natural remedy industry.
But she intends to keep up pressure on the bill, saying if a stand-alone ministry is not established the protesters will be fighting the same battle five years down the track.
