Revealing Gallipoli -
6:10am
Every Anzac Day, Kiwis old
and young remember those who were called to serve New Zealand in
wartime. Revealing Gallipoli tells the stories of New Zealanders
and includes the broader histories from the Turkish, English,
Irish, Welsh and Australians.
On location in Turkey and the United Kingdom, international presenters from the United Kingdom (Professor Keith Jeffery), Turkey (Savas Karakas), and Peter Elliott from New Zealand, explore narratives taken from diaries, letters and reminiscences of soldiers.
Revealing Gallipoli goes beyond the usual view that somehow
Gallipoli is solely an Anzac story. Profiling the evidence and
narrative experiences of the Allied and Turkish troops, it follows
major events of the Gallipoli campaign.
Nobody's Heroes - 8:05am
Young Kiwi Tom McRae
examines his late grandfathers experience as a World War II
prisoner of war (POW) and its post-war consequences in Nobody's
Heroes.
Colin McRae was one of nearly 2,000 New Zealand soldiers captured on the Mediterranean island of Crete in May 1941.
Tom McRae's journey takes him from Napier, New Zealand to
England, Greece, Crete, The Czech Republic and Poland; he meets his
grandfather's old platoon commander, who describes the terror of
battle and former POWs who describe the horror of captivity. He
also visits the battle sites of Crete and the now-deserted POW camp
at Lamsdorf, Poland.
Anzac songs - 9:15am
Anzac Songs sees Kiwi entertainer Jackie Clarke take a musical
journey through the tunes that struck a chord with New Zealanders
during the great wars.
With some help from old friends like Annie Crummer and Sir Howard
Morrison as well as the Wellington International Ukelele Orchestra,
Clarke melds stories and performance into a unique celebration of
the Anzac spirit.
RSA: Remembering Who We Are - 10:05am
The president of
the RSA describes it as the largest and longest running club in New
Zealand. The new documentary RSA: Remembering Who We Are sees Kevin
Milne present the untold story of the RSA, which celebrated its
90th birthday in 2006.
Since the RSA started, it has kept a vow to continue into the future the ideals of its founding fathers, to maintain and improve the quality of life of all who serve the country and have donned the uniform of New Zealand's Defence forces.
RSA: Remembering Who We Are is a lasting account of the history of the RSA that covers the historical milestones from 1916 to the present, including highlights and controversial times. This is not just an organisation where old people go to drink and tell war stories, it is a means for those who have served to enjoy camaraderie and friendship.
