Two former scout masters have been sentenced to seven years jail for sexual abuse at the High Court in Auckland.

Andrew Pybus, 32, and Nigel Fenemor, 48, were convicted of more than 20 charges involving sexual abuse and having objectionable material.

The men sexually abused two young boys while scout leaders including photographing indecent acts.

In sentencing the judge said the two men befriended and manipulated the boys and abused their trust. The offending took place while on various scout trips from 2002 to 2003.

He said what Fenemor and Pybus did to the young scouts was cruel, premeditated and perverted.

A lawyer for one of two former scout leaders says there is no appeal planned.

Defence lawyer, Marie Dyhrberg, says the sentences were fair.

Meanwhile, Scouting New Zealand says it has been reviewing how it montors scout leaders in an effort to ensure there is no abuse of young boys.

Chief executive Geoff Knighton says such cases are abhorrent and it vets potential leaders carefully.

Knighton says over recent years Scouting New Zealand has learned that sexual predators are devious and it tries its best to ensure young scouts aren't put at any risk.
