NZ soldiers injured in Afghanistan
Jun 21, 2004 4:30 PM

The defence force will continue to monitor the condition of an SAS solider who was shot in Afghanistan to decide if he should be evacuated back to New Zealand.

Two special forces personnel were injured during an armed attack in Central Afghanistan on Sunday at about midday.

One of the two has been transferred to Ramstein Air Force base in Germany for further medical treatment. The other man, who was shot, is receiving medical attention.

Both soldiers are expected to make a full recovery.

Minister of Defence Mark Burton says one of the men received a shrapnel wound and has since returned to his unit.

Burton says they will await advice on whether the injured men should be returned to New Zealand.

The defence force will not be releasing personal details about the injured men.
