Royal premiere for small town
Jan 12, 2005 8:21 PM

A taste of Hollywood has come to a small town in the central North Island.

More than 100 locals turned out for a gala launch of the movie Her Majesty in the Waikato town of Te Awamutu.

The film is a story based on the Queen's visit to Cambridge in 1953 and a young girl who is desperate to meet her.

Much of the film was shot in the Waikato region and 1200 extras were needed to recreate the visit.

It has been a long wait for the official premiere, the lead actress Sally Andrews was only 11 when the film was made - she is now 15.

"It was the first on screen thing i'd ever done, so it took a lot of work from all the other people trying to help me but i'm glad its finally here," Andrews says.

The film is set to open in cinemas nationwide next week.
